Can I print gradient designs on DTG and DTF?
Printing Methods for DTG
When using the direct-to-garment (DTG) printing method, your design can be printed in two ways:
Dark/Black Garments: A layer of white under base is applied first, followed by the color layer. This enhances color vibrancy.
Light/White Garments: Only the color layer is applied.
Gradients on Dark Garments (DTG)
Using gradients on dark garments is not recommended. The white under base layer can be visible through the gradient, affecting the print quality.
Printing Methods for DTF
Direct-to-film (DTF) printing allows more flexibility with gradients. However, the print quality still depends on the design and color combinations used.
Alternative Design Options
To achieve a gradient effect on both DTG and DTF products without transparency issues, use halftone gradients. This technique involves using individual opaque dots to create the illusion of a gradient.
By adopting the halftone method, you can simulate a gradient or fade effect without relying on transparent elements in your design file.
